A Guelph man had more than the legal limit of alcohol in his system when he hit a 10-year-old boy who was skateboarding, Guelph Police say.

The collision occurred around 9:15 p.m. Sunday, on Yorkshire Road.

Police say the boy was skateboarding on the side of the street, and the force of the collision threw him through the air for up to five metres.

He was taken to hospital to be treated for a broken leg.

The 22-year-old driver of the vehicle is charged with driving with over 80 mg of alcohol causing bodily harm.
