Guelph Police say they’ve analyzed collisions involving bicycles on city streets and discovery two leading causes – and their findings won’t do much for anyone convinced none of the blame lies with anyone using their form of transportation.

According to police, one of the two main causes of cyclist collisions this year has seen drivers at fault, while the other one has seen cyclists get the blame.

When it comes to drivers, police say they cause some collisions by turning into the path of cyclists who have the right of way.

As for cyclists, police say some collisions have been caused by people on bikes using crosswalks without dismounting and taking the bicycle through the crosswalk on foot.

Police say they regularly receive calls from cyclists complaining about driver behaviour, as well as calls from drivers complaining about cyclist behaviour.

From January 1 to June 30, there were 18 collisions involving cyclists on roads patrolled by Guelph Police.
