Authorities are investigating whether there may be a link between fires that broke out two hours apart in two vacant buildings.

Firefighters were called to the first fire – at an abandoned shed on Silvercreek Parkway north of Woodlawn Road – around 1:30 a.m. Monday.

Two hours later, crews were called to an abandoned barn on Fife Road, east of Wellington Road 32 in Guelph/Eramosa. The barn was destroyed.

Both fires are being considered suspicious. Officials say it’s too soon to tell whether they are somehow connected.

“We are thinking it possibly could be linked, but we don’t know for sure,” Guelph fire chief John Osborne said in an interview.

There have been several fires at abandoned buildings in Wellington County in recent weeks, although most have been east of Guelph, in and around the Rockwood area.
