The two people accused of stealing mail from a number of locations around southern Ontario are now facing dozens of new charges.

The Fergus residents – a 34-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman – were first arrested in April, on charges of mischief and theft from mail.

Police said at the time that they had found a “significant amount of mail” as part of their investigation, and had yet to identify all the alleged victims in the case.

Monday, the OPP announced the laying of 71 new charges against the man and woman.

In total, they now face 43 charges of theft from mail, 18 charges of identity theft, 14 charges of possession of credit cards, seven charges of possession of identity documents and one charge of mischief over $5,000.

A number of mailboxes around Guelph and Wellington County were broken into earlier this year.

At the time of the arrests, police said they had found mail from as far away as London and Kincardine. OPP officers from Wellington County, Huron County and South Bruce were involved in the investigation.
