A 33-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a stabbing outside the main branch of the Guelph Public Library.

Guelph Police were called to the area of the Norfolk Street branch around 3:30 p.m. Sunday in connection with the attack.

As a result of the stabbing, a 29-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

According to Ed Pickersgill, a counsellor at a drop-in centre who knows the man, he was stabbed five times, received a punctured lung, and remained in critical but stable condition as of Monday afternoon.

The 33-year-old man faces charges of assault with a weapon, aggravated assault and three counts of breaching his probation.

Police say they still want to hear from anyone who witnessed the attack or may have video footage of it.
