A barn near the eastern edge of Wellington County was destroyed by fire Friday morning.

Firefighters were first called to the property on Wellington Road 36 east of Morriston around 10 a.m.

The fire had been spotted by people driving past the area on Highway 401.

“When we arrived, the back corner of the barn was fully engulfed in flames,” Puslinch Township fire chief Steven Goode said in an interview.

Before long, there were more than 30 firefighters at the scene from Guelph, Puslinch, Guelph-Eramosa, Hamilton and Milton.

Given how rapidly the barn was being consumed, they focused their efforts on protecting other buildings on the property.

No injuries were reported, and no animals were kept in the barn.

The structure was used for storage of antique snowmobiles and other pieces of equipment, all of which were destroyed in the fire.

Authorities at the scene said that they do not believe the fire to be suspicious.

While the cause of the fire had not been determined as of Friday afternoon, Goode said that he had no reason to think it was connected to the rash of suspicious fires around Wellington County in recent months.
