Police are warning the public about a potential danger after a child found a discarded needle in central Guelph.

The needle was found in a bushy area along Neeve Street.

Police say the child started to play with the needle before their parents realized what was going on and took it away. The child was not hurt.

Needles found on public property in Guelph should be reported to HIV/AIDS Resources and Community Health, at 519-763-2255 ext. 151 or police.

People can also dispose of found needles themselves, although police recommend that the needle only be touched with tongs or pliers, and it be kept in a hard plastic container that clearly indicates it has a needle inside.
