A large bungalow south of Mount Forest was destroyed by fire Thursday morning.

Firefighters were first called to the home on Concession Road 11 near the community of Farewell, shortly before 9 a.m.

Crews from Mount Forest and Arthur were called first, and firefighters from Harriston and Palmerston were then called for assistance in shuttling water to the house.

According to Wellington North fire chief David Guilbault, firefighters arrived to find that the home was unsafe to enter due to thick smoke.

Instead, they turned their attention to protecting a nearby barn.

“We got a good crew here now, and we’ve got it well under control,” Guilbault said shortly before noon.

Nobody was home at the time the fire was reported.
