It’s been a busy week for General, one of the two police dogs belonging to Guelph Police.

Police say he’s helped them track down and arrest three people. For two of those arrests, he had to leave the city.

First up, General and his handler were called to Cambridge early Monday morning to help Waterloo Regional Police find a driver who allegedly fled the scene of a hit-and-run crash, leaving his damaged vehicle behind.

Although General arrived 30 minutes after the collision, police say he was able to find the driver hiding in a bush area.

The following morning, General was able to track down a man who had allegedly been seen breaking into a vehicle on Glenburnie Drive.

Police say the man was found with a number of stolen items on him, and was also wanted in connection with a collision in which a vehicle hit a house on Merion Street.

General was back at it early Thursday morning, again taking a trip to Cambridge to help Waterloo Regional Police.

This time, he was asked to track down a man who had allegedly broken into a house and ran away when confronted by the homeowner.

The man was found hiding in a shed more than one kilometre away and placed under arrest.
