Guelph’s government-run Service Ontario office is scheduled to be closed in October.

A concerned group of Guelph residents and members of OPSEU were picketing in front of the Service Ontario office on Stone Road West Tuesday.

The group gathered in the hopes of creating awareness among Guelph residents how the office closing would impact the city.

If that office is closed, Guelph residents will have to travel to Kitchener or Waterloo for full services.  Privately run, smaller agency stores only offer health card and driver license updates and stickers for license plates.

“With the government locations you are offered a wider range of services than you will be at an agency stores.  Land Registry Office; setting up new health cards for immigrants; if you have a suspended license, you can’t go to an agency store to get your license unsuspended, you have to go to a government store to do it.” said protest organizer Mavis Vet.

Other offices slated for closure includeones in Milton and Mississauga.
