Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit has been called in after a 25-year-old man was found dead inside a north Guelph hotel.

Guelph Police were called to the Silvercreek Parkway North hotel around 2 a.m. Tuesday.

According to police, a man on the third floor of the hotel was causing extensive damage.

Police say attempts to speak with the man were unsuccessful.

After about two hours, the SIU says, officers entered a hotel room and found the body of the 25-year-old.

He was identified later in the day as Zachary Gallant, a Guelph resident.

The SIU says it wants anyone with information about the incident to contact its lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529.

Under Ontario law, the SIU is contacted whenever a police interaction involves a serious injury or death.
