A former employee of a Guelph company is facing charges of fraud and forgery.
Steven Gamsby, 53, appeared in court Thursday and was granted bail.
As he left the courthouse, Gamsby declined to comment on the allegations against him – which have yet to be tested in court.
“There’s no comment right now. No thank you,” he told CTV News.
According to Mark McNally, who owned a local company called Green and Clean Energy, Gamsby was an employee at his Southgate Drive-based business.
McNally claims Gamsby handled $8 million worth of projects in his first six months with the company, and projects worth tens of millions of dollars later on.
Eventually, he says, he checked the contracts and discovered that signatures on them had been forged.
The company went bankrupt not long after, putting 55 people out of work.
McNally has since started another business at the same location, although he says he now finds himself being doubtful of people he comes into contact with.
“I hope that, as time goes on, I’ll become less and less suspicious and become a little more trusting again,” he said in an interview.
Gamsby’s bail conditions include living with his mother and staying away from anyone who worked for Green and Clean Energy.
He returns to court Nov. 29.
