A first-year arts student at the University of Guelph has died.

The student, whose name has not been made public by the authorities, was found dead Tuesday morning in a bedroom in the school’s South Residence.

Her cause of death has not been determined, and is currently under investigation by police.

School officials say they have brought counsellors into the student’s residence, and also have support available for any other students who may want it.

“Everyone just comes together to try and help students,” said Brenda Whiteside, the university’s vice-president of student affairs.

Officials do not believe the student’s death represents a risk to public safety.
