Residents of a quiet crescent in Guelph’s northeast corner were being asked to stay in their homes Friday evening due to police activity in the area.

Guelph Police told CTV News that they were responding to reports that a rifle had been pointed at students walking home from an elementary school near Grange Road and Buckthorn Crescent around 3:30 p.m.

There are two elementary schools in the area – Holy Trinity Catholic School and Ken Danby Public School.

Officials at Holy Trinity tweeted that the incident “did not involve the school.”

Shortly before 6 p.m., police officers were seen walking through the backyards of homes on Buckthorn. Other officers were seen in front of a home.
