A popular park and wedding venue is partially off-limits due to a problem with recurring sinkholes.

The concerns have prompted officials to block off a section of the Goldie Mill ruins off Cardigan Street in Guelph.

Mario Petricevic, the city’s general manager of facilities management, says sinkholes have been found along part of the trail leading to the ruins themselves.

While the holes have been filled in the past, authorities have chosen to search for a more permanent solution.

“It keeps deteriorating. We thought it was about time we repaired it once and for all,” Petricevic said.

“For the moment, just for public safety, we’ve got the area fenced off.”

The closure is expected to last for at least the rest of the year.

The ruins are still accessible by entering from the other side, away from the trail.
