Police are looking for multiple people suspected of stealing over $5,000 worth of baby formula.

“We’ve now received six different reports from south-end grocery stores about individuals coming into their store and stealing baby formula,” says Cst. Mike Gatto of Guelph Police.

On Thursday, police released a series of photos of two male suspects in the thefts. They also believe that a female is involved.

“The reports I saw from one of the incidents yesterday is that a female was the responsible person,” says Cst. Gatto. “The other incidents have all been males.”

A single container of baby formula costs about $30. Public health officials are warning those to be wary of purchasing black market formula.

“We recommend the public purchase baby food from reputable retailers so we can ensure there’s regulatory oversight,” says Aldo Franco, manager of health protection and investigation with the Region of Waterloo.

Police don’t know yet whether the formula is being stolen to be sold, or to be used.
