Twin sisters Isabelle and Sophie Lynch are the recipients of the 2016 Middlebrook prize for curators under the age of 30 with their exhibit titled Blood, Sweat and Tears.

Shauna McCabe the director of the Art Gallery of Guelph says that the prize gives young curators a platform.

“The focus on young Canadian creators is very critical because often the majority of curators tend to be older” says McCabe.

Both sisters are grateful for the award and are happy that the Art Gallery of Guelph is giving young people the opportunity for mentorship and growth.

“It’s been a wonderful opportunity for us it’s just been amazing,” says Isabelle. “This is really the first prize that is for young curators in Canada,” says Sophie.

Randall Howard, one the co-founders of the award says that small art galleries like the one in Guelph are able to take chances with young talent.

“Innovation always happens in the grassroots from the bottom up,” he says.

The award comes with a $5000 prize as well as a space to showcase their exhibit.
