A large-scale construction project including the building of a parkade and reconstruction of a stretch of Wilson Street is looking for input from people in Guelph.

Guelph City Hall will be holding meetings from 2-4pm and 7-9pm on Thursday, and 11am-1pm and 7-9pm on April 26, 2016 to discuss the timelines of the project. Officials are also hoping to get ideas from the public about how they envision the reconstruction of Wilson Street, located in the downtown.

Parking downtown is a problem in city. The construction project will see a new parkade built that will hold a minimum of 350 parking spots.

Bike lanes, a pedestrian island, potential street parking and the replacement of the pedestrian bridge over Norfolk Street will be included in the reconstruction of Wilson Street, between Gordon and Macdonell Streets.

Council has approved a $13.8 million budget for the construction of the parkade, with the money coming out of the city’s infrastructure capital budget.

The project is projected to begin this month, with road construction being finishing in November 2016, and the parkade being completed in December 2017.
