Man charged following fatal hit-and-run outside Miramichi

A man has been arrested and charged following a fatal hit-and-run outside Miramichi, N.B., early Saturday morning.

The incident happened on Micmac Road in Esgenoôpetitj just before 4 a.m.

Police believe the crash happened when a vehicle travelling southeast veered onto the shoulder of the road and hit a pedestrian.

The victim, a 33-year-old woman, died at the scene.

The driver allegedly fled the scene before police arrived.

Police say Bradley Somerville from Esgenoôpetitj was arrested on Monday in connection with the incident.

The 53-year-old was charged in Miramichi provincial court with leaving the scene of a collision causing death.

He was remanded into custody.

Somerville appeared in court again on Tuesday and was released on a release order.

He is scheduled to return to court on June 22.
