Person found dead inside vehicle after Fredericton police respond to weapons complaint

A person has been found dead inside a vehicle after police responded to a weapons complaint in Fredericton Tuesday.

The Fredericton Police Force received a report of a person with a weapon on Prospect Street around 10:45 a.m. Tuesday.

Officers secured a perimeter along the street, between the plaza entrance across from Fredericton High School and Smythe Street, and asked people to avoid the area.

Police found a vehicle at the scene.

“In the vehicle, police recovered a firearm alongside a deceased individual,” said the Fredericton Police Force in a statement on Facebook Tuesday afternoon.

Police say they won’t be releasing any additional details about the incident.

Some schools in the area - Fredericton High School, Priestman Street Elementary School and École Sainte-Anne - implemented hold-and-secure measures as a precaution during the police operation.

The hold-and-secure order was lifted before noon, after the scene and suspect vehicle had been secured.

Police say their operation concluded at 1 p.m.
