Two people charged in 2024 death of child in Eskasoni, N.S.

Two people have been charged with the death of a child in Eskasoni First Nation last August.

Two people are facing charges in connection with the death of a child in Eskasoni, N.S., in 2024.

Eskasoni RCMP responded to a report that a child had died suddenly at a home in the community on Aug. 5, 2024.

The Northeast Nova RCMP Major Crime Unit took over the case and arrested two people on Wednesday “following a complex and lengthy investigation.”

A 37-year-old woman and 42-year-old man, both from Eskasoni, are facing charges of failing to provide the necessities of life and criminal negligence causing death.

The man and woman, who have not been named, were released on conditions and are due to appear in Eskasoni provincial court on June 30.

“Our thoughts are with the child’s loved ones and the community of Eskasoni,” said the RCMP in a statement Thursday. “No further information will be released.”

Police did not release any information about the victim, including their age or gender.
