Woman charged with arson after duplex fire in New Glasgow, N.S.

A 32-year-old woman is facing charges following a duplex fire in New Glasgow, N.S., last week.

Police, fire and ambulance crews responded to the scene on Dalcrombie Drive on June 3 at 6:30 a.m.

The residence was significantly damaged by the fire.

No injuries were reported.

Police say the fire was determined to be arson.

Shelby Matheson has been charged with:

• arson – disregard for human life
• failure to comply with a release order

Matheson appeared in Pictou provincial court on Tuesday and has been remanded into custody.

She is scheduled to return to court at a later date.

New Glasgow Regional Police say no further information will be released at this time.

The department’s major crime unit continues to investigate.
