Barrie police arrest man at gunpoint for alleged release order breach

Barrie police arrested a 37-year-old Barrie man at gunpoint on Saturday after he allegedly breached the conditions of his release order.

Around 1:40 p.m., officers received a notification about the man’s alleged violation of the order.

He was later found in the Kozlov Centre parking lot shortly after 5 p.m., where members of the Barrie Police High Harm Unit took him into custody.

During the interaction, authorities say one officer drew a firearm, though it was not discharged. Police also confirmed that a conducted energy weapon was not used.

In a video circulating online of the incident, bystanders can be observed fleeing their nearby vehicle while police put the man under arrest.

The accused has been charged with three counts of failing to comply with a release order.
