Frost advisory in effect, one day after heat warning

If you did any gardening over the long weekend, you may want to cover up your plants or bring them inside.

From temperatures in the 30s to thunderstorms, topped with single-digit lows, Mother Nature is offering a little bit of everything this spring.

Environment Canada has issued a yellow frost advisory for much of Simcoe County, including Barrie, Collingwood, Muskoka, Innisfil and York Region.

The national weather centre says frost is expected Wednesday night as temperatures dip to as low as 1 degree Celsius.

The frost advisory comes just one day after the first heat event of the season with central Ontario under a heat warning over the long weekend and into the start of the short work week.

Tuesday marked the second hottest May 18 on record in Barrie reaching 30.9 degrees Celsius, according to Environment Canada. The record was 32.8 degrees Celsius in 1962.

The hottest location in southern Ontario on Victoria Day Monday was Wasaga Beach, where the mercury reached 32 degrees Celsius.
