Where construction crews are at with Dunlop Street underpass

Construction crews continued what the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) calls “critical work” needed to make the new Dunlop Street underpass in Barrie.

It says the work is necessary to make the future widening of Highway 400 to 10 lanes.

The next project for workers is replacing the existing steel median barrier with a tall concrete wall barrier.

The Ministry of Transportation says several Highway 400 crossings through the city have already been replaced including Essa Road, Tiffin Street, Anne Street and Sunnidale Road.

In addition to the Dunlop Street replacement, the MTO will be replacing the Bayfield Street underpass.

It is still working on when the Mapleview Drive and Georgian Drive bridge construction will take place.

The Dunlop Street bridge was closed overnight Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week so crews could tackle the project.
