10 things to do in Calgary this weekend (April 24-26)

There are plenty of local events and activities to check out in Calgary this weekend.

Calgary International Beerfest

• What: Sample products from more than 200 breweries, distilleries and cideries at Calgary International Beerfest 2026.
• When: Friday, May 1 and Saturday, May 2.

Chihuahua Races

• What: Saturday marks the 10th annual Chihuahua Races at Century Downs. The day kicks off with horse racing at 12:45 p.m., then moves on to chihuahua racing, before switching to a viewing of the Kentucky Derby at 4:57 p.m.
• When: Saturday, May 2.

Thomas the Tank Engine at Heritage Park

• What: Visit with Shining Time Station‘s Thomas the Tank Engine at A Day out with Thomas at Heritage Park. You can even have a real train ride aboard Thomas.
• When: Saturday, May 2 and Sunday, May 3.
• Where: Heritage Park, 1900 Heritage Dr. S.W.

Ogden Indoor Highland Games

• What: The Foothills Caledonia Youth Pipe Band hosts the Ogden Indoor Highland Games. Admission is by donation and there will be pipe and drum competitions, a silent auction, concessions, a beer garden and a 50/50 draw.
• When: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 2.

Alberta in Harmony: The Planets

• What: The Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra come together to perform John Luther Adams’ Become Ocean and Gustav Holst The Planets together during Alberta in Harmony: The Planets.
• When: 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 2.

Notre-Dame de Paris

• What: Alberta Ballet presents Notre-Dame de Paris, based on Victor Hugo’s novel. The ballet – which is Alberta Ballet’s last of the season – follows free-spirited dancer Esmeralda and devoted bellringer Quasimodo as they navigate love, obsession and tragedy.
• When: Until Saturday, May 2.

Wildwoman

• What: Alberta Theatre Projects presents Wildwoman, in association with Gateway Theatre, based on the true story that inspired Beauty and the Beast. Wildwoman dives into the lives of three women as they fight for survival, influence and legacy within the treacherous walls of a royal court.
• When: Until May 10.
• Where: Martha Cohen Theatre, 215 Eighth Ave. S.E.

A Doll’s House

• What: Theatre Calgary presents Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House, as adapted by Amy Herzog. The play tells the story of an ordinary family, a perfect marriage and a wife with a secret.

New Sound in Town

• What: Stage West Calgary presents New Sound in Town, a musical revue that explores the evolution and cross-pollination of musical genres over the decades.

Golden Girls: Vegas Vacation

• What: Jubilations Dinner Theatre Calgary presents Golden Girls: Vegas Vacation, a tale of a gang of senior women who head to Las Vegas for a Bachelorette trip.
