Baseball, football and drag shows: Here’s what’s happening in Edmonton this weekend

Edmonton may see scattered thunderstorms this weekend, but the city is ramping up its summer events nonetheless. Here’s what’s happening:

Edmonton Riverhawks home opener

The ever-spirited West Coast League baseball team is back for the season with a home opener game at the Re/Max Field on Friday. The first of many home game themes is an Indigenous Celebration and Cree-language broadcast through the night.

Edmonton Elks vs. Calgary Stampeders

Night at the Knothole, a nostalgic event for the teams that once called Clarke Stadium home, returns to the city Friday night for the first time in decades.

While the game won’t affect the regular CFL season, the previously 5,100-seat facility is sure to be alive with the sounds of city rivalry.

Edmonton Drag Festival

Pride month festivities begin in the downtown core with the Edmonton Drag Festival.

Sir Winston Churchill Square will be home to more than 120 local, national and international queer artists and drag performers for the fourth year this weekend starting Friday.

UFest Ukrainian Festival

Western Canada’s largest multi-day Ukrainian festival returns to Borden Park on Friday. Entry is free.

Hundreds of performers, including dancers, choirs and bands, will entertain the masses enjoying beer gardens, food vendors, cultural workshops and a marketplace.

International Children’s Festival of the Arts

The St. Albert festival promises fun for all ages this weekend with performers from as far away as France.
