One killed following suspicious Sudbury tent fires

In an update Friday, police in Greater Sudbury said the death of a man at the Energy Court homeless encampment is being investigated as a homicide.

Police also said the victim was a 41-year-old Sudbury man, but are withholding his name at the request of his family.

His body was discovered after firefighters responded to two tent fires at the encampment early in the morning June 11.

“The investigation has determined that several individuals were seen fleeing the two tents immediately after the fire began at approximately 3:20 a.m.,” police said in a news release.

“Officers continue to canvass the area and review video surveillance footage in an effort to gather additional information.”
