Severe thunderstorm watch issued for parts of southeast and central Sask.

As of 7:49 p.m., Environment Canada said conditions are no longer favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms.

Just as temperatures begin to rise, parts southeastern and central Saskatchewan could be in for a spring thunderstorm Sunday evening.

As of 6:31 p.m., Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm watch for southeastern communities like Yorkton, Esterhazy and Melville.

The alert is also in place for more central communities like Melfort and Tisdale.

Environment Canada says conditions are favourable for a severe thunderstorm capable of “producing severe winds and small hail.”

“Be prepared for severe weather. If threatening weather approaches, take cover in a basement or interior room. If outside, protect yourself from flying debris and hail,” read Environment Canada’s weather alert statement.

“When thunder roars, go indoors! Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Secure loose objects.”

Environment Canada added strong wind gusts can damage trees, buildings and even overturn vehicles.
