June snow in the forecast for B.C. Interior highway passes

A dusting of June snow is possible on higher elevation sections of two B.C. Interior highways on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to Environment Canada.

The federal weather agency says to expect anything between trace amounts to four centimetres of snow in the Pennask Summit area on the Okanagan Connector, and around Kootenay Pass on Highway 3.

“An upper disturbance will pass over Southern B.C. (Tuesday night). Snow levels are set to lower to around 1,700 metres this afternoon and will linger until Wednesday morning,” a special weather statement reads. “Kootenay Pass is most likely to see potential snow accumulation this evening, whereas Pennask Summit is more likely to see snow accumulation overnight.”

Environment Canada warned drivers of reduced visibility and potentially hazardous travel conditions.
