Eggy business in Sturgeon Creek to get a goodie baggie

CTV's Gary Robson shows you how Grant's Old Mill and Sturgeon Creek Association teamed up for an Easter egg hunt on Saturday.

A warm spring weather was a certain help for an eggy business in Sturgeon Creek.

The Sturgeon Creek Association partnered with St. James Assiniboia Pioneer Association on Saturday, hosting an egg hunt in celebration of Easter.

Attendees were asked to take photos of 10 eggs in the creek, come back to show the proof and get a goodie bag.

“That way, we don’t have to go out and reset the eggs every 10, 15 minutes,” said Tyler Crichton, spokesperson for the Sturgeon Creek Association. “And that way, for the little ones, it’s a little bit more inclusive that they can go and find themselves.”

The egg hunt was the second-ever event for the association; however, with more than 70 people showing up, Crichton says the need for community events is there.

“It goes to show that people are really craving this kind of stuff … I’m really big on small, consistent, easy actions to get community back together again and this is a perfect example of that.”

Tiffany Evans, president of St. James Assiniboia Pioneer Association, which operates Grant’s Old Mill, hoped the event would tighten the feeling of community, too.

“We want to bring everybody together, have a fun-filled afternoon, work together as a community, as well as bring the awareness to Grant’s Old Mill during the time that we’re closed,” Evans said.

Currently, the mill is closed and under the planning stage of reconstruction.
