Manitoba RCMP launch annual checkstop program

Manitoba RCMP are kicking off their annual holiday checkstop campaign to rid the roads of impaired drivers.

If you’re planning on drinking during the holiday season – don’t drive.

Mounties in Manitoba are launching their annual checkstop program this weekend.

RCMP said motorists should expect to see more police on roads and highways throughout the month of December.

The RCMP Traffic Services will be conducting mandatory screenings for alcohol and drugs during traffic stops.

“If enjoying your holiday season involves consuming drugs or alcohol, then we strongly encourage you to plan ahead so you have a safe ride home,” Insp. Robert Wuskynyk, head of Manitoba RCMP Traffic Services, said in a release Friday.

RCMP said motorists should arrange for a designated driver, or call a cab, rideshare or Operation Red Nose to get home safely.
