With Ministry of Labour personnel supervising, locked-out employees of Hematite Manufacturing’s Guelph plant voted down their employer’s latest contract offer.
Friday’s vote was decided by a margin of 42 to 18 – not nearly as close as the 25-24 vote last weekend on the same contract.
After the first vote, Hematite locked out its 62 unionized employees.
Workers have voiced concerns that the company is looking to scale back their wages, benefits and vacation time, while company officials have claimed that they are making necessary moves to keep the plant competitive.
Hematite Manufacturing manufactures auto parts. It has manufacturing plants in Guelph and Brantford, and five sales offices in the United States.
