As Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston continues his tour of Denmark to find new economic relationships, representatives from five Nordic countries are also in his province as part of a diplomatic mission.
Representatives from Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Sweden and Norway touched down in Nova Scotia on Monday as part of a three-day visit.
Nikolaj Harris, ambassador of Denmark to Canada, is part of the trip and says they have met with government officials and private companies to explore opportunities in Atlantic Canada.
“I see a few areas where we can do even more,” Harris told CTV News Atlantic’s Todd Battis on Wednesday. “For Denmark, it’s in energy transition. Wind energy is extremely important. I think we can cooperate even more than we do.”
Harris noted Danish company Maersk, which is one of the biggest shipping companies in the world, could bring more business to Maritime ports.
“They have ambitious targets on zero emissions for their ships,” he said. “We could also cooperate there.”
According to the Nova Scotia government, the province’s exports to Denmark hit $29.4 million in 2024, and it imported $24.4 million worth of items from Denmark.
