Fresh Ideas For Foodies

Hi Everyone!

Food blogs continue to grow in popularity all over the world…and right here at home.    Earlier today, I caught up with local foodies Kelly Neil (KellyNeil) and Kathy Jollimore (EatHalifax) to get an idea of the local food blog scene, and let me tell you, there’s no shortage of offerings!

While there are (literally) thousands of food blogs to choose from, it may serve you best to give extra attention to local bloggers.  Often, they’ll suggest recipes using local products that are in season and accessible!

And, don’t hesitate to sample several sites.   Kathy says blogging is about personality too.  You’ll love the recipes and photos, but many bloggers get repeat visitors because they include personal stories about food… and other stuff.

Thinking about becoming a blogger?  Kelly says anyone with a computer and a camera (or phone) can get in on the fun.  Go to a free site like WordPress or BlogSpot and get writing!  You don’t even have to publish it.  But if (and when) you’re ready to share with the masses, you can let the world know!

For more seasoned bloggers, if you’ve been a member of the Halifax Food Bloggers Facebook Group since this past May 1st, you can enter the “Farmers Market Table Contest”.  You’ve got until this Sunday (May 26th) to enter your original recipe featuring ingredients from Halifax Seaport Market.

A panel of local judges will choose their favourite entry… and the winning blogger will be awarded with a basket of goodies from the Market!  Good luck!

A big thanks to Kelly and Kathy for all their insight today!

Oh, and more thing… congrats to them both!  Kelly and Kathy’s blogs were each recognized in The Coast Magazine’s “Best of Food” survey.  Not too shabby, huh?
