Ski Martock near Windsor, N.S. opened their slopes Friday, welcoming the 2024/2025 season with a layer of fresh white snow.
Maritime skiiers were just excited the hill opened before Christmas.
“I think I have been here like every day since opening and the snow is perfect,” said a woman skiing at Martock Sunday.
Andrew Maclean is the operations manager at Ski Martock. He said it’s been a great turnout since the hill opened.
"For now, we have season’s ticket holders coming in,” Maclean said. “As we open more terrain we will start selling more tickets and then by the end of January all our lessons will start up.”
Skiiers reported perfect conditions on Sunday and expressed their excitement to be skiing before the new year.
“It’s been the cooperation of mother nature and the temperatures to make snow and natural snow as well so it's a perfect combination,” said Maclean.
Maclean said last season was busy at Martock. They are expecting the same turnout this year. He says being close to Halifax, the Valley and the South Shore makes it easy for people to pop by for a few hours.
"What we are seeing in the next little bit is natural snowmaking temperatures, this natural snow sticking around and a bit more on top of that for Christmas, so I am going to be optimistic and say this is going to be a great winter,” said Maclean.
Ski Martock will be closed Christmas day but will be open on Dec. 26 for regular season hours from 9am until 9pm.
