Weather alerts
A blowing snow advisory is in effect in the Acadian Peninsula, Bathurst and Chaleur regions of New Brunswick.
Poor visibility is expected beginning Friday morning and continuing into Saturday.
“In the wake of the ongoing heavy snowfall, strong west to northwesterly winds will develop this morning persist into Saturday. These winds combined with the fresh snowfall will likely give extensive blowing and drifting snow, especially over exposed areas downwind of the Bay of Chaleur,” Environment Canada says.
“Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility. Visibility may be significantly and suddenly reduced to near zero. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.”
In Nova Scotia, a winter storm warning is in place for northern Cape Breton. Additional snowfall amounts of up to 45 cm is expected over the Highlands Friday morning until Saturday.
“Temperatures will fall again this morning as winds shift and strengthen out of the west to northwest. This will allow onshore flurries to develop, with the potential for rapidly accumulating snow over the Cape Breton Highlands,” the warning reads.
“The fresh snowfall and strong winds will cause persistently reduced visibility in blowing snow, with whiteout conditions possible at times in exposed areas.”
A wind warning is also in effect for southern Cape Breton where maximum wind gusts may reach up to 90 km/h into Saturday.
A wind warning is also in place for western P.E.I. and a blowing snow advisory is in place for eastern Prince County.
