Service restored after two water main breaks in Halifax

Halifax Water works to repair a water main break on Halifax's Herring Cove Road.

Halifax Water says repair work has been completed in Halifax’s Herring Cove Road area after a water main break earlier Thursday.

Municipal officials say the road will remain closed between Dentith Road and Sussex Street as crews work onthe road near the repair site. A detour is in place.

The utilitysays the system is being refilled. It says customers at low elevations will seewater service return to normal later Thursday evening, while customers at higher elevationswill see service return later.

For customers requiring drinking water, Halifax Water says bottled water will be available at Halifax Fire Station 60 at 40 Latter Pond Lane in Herring Cove from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday, and from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Friday.

Water service has also been restored to customers on McFatridge Road, after crews spent much of the day working to repair a water main in thatarea.

Halifax Water says customers who experience discoloured water should open a cold water faucet for about 10 minutes until the water runs clear.
