The RCMP in Richibucto, N.B., say they are investigating the deaths of four dogs who were all shot in the head.
On Jan. 13, the New Brunswick SPCA seized four dead dogs from the front porch of a home in Bass River.
The SPCA initially conducted the investigation, but handed it over to the RCMP late last month.
Sgt. Guillaume Belanger of the Richibucto RCMP said a necropsy discovered fragments of bullets in the dogs’ heads.
“The four dogs were killed with a bullet in the head,” said Belanger.
Belanger said no one has been charged and the investigation continues.
Belanger said the owner of the dogs, which appeared to be beagles, was a person of interest in the case when they began investigating.
“We spoke to him to gather all the information he could provide to us, however at this point he was not able to provide us with information on how the dogs were killed,” said Belanger. “He definitely was a person of interest for sure on the deaths of these dogs.”
Belanger said investigators did everything they could to discover where the bullets were coming from, however at this point the police do not have any leads.
Anyone more information is asked to contact the Richibucto RCMP detachment.
