A lockdown is currently in place at the Dorchester Penitentiary in Dorchester, N.B., following an inmate assault.
According to Correctional Services Canada (CSC), the medium security unit in the penitentiary was placed in a lockdown on Friday so staff could conduct a search of the institution following the assault.
CSC says the search was ordered to ensure the safety and security of the penitentiary, as well as its staff and inmates.
Visits are suspended until staff complete their search, and normal operations will continue as soon as it’s deemed safe to do so, according to CSC.
