Federal government spending $7.2M on housing in Dieppe, N.B.

Published:

Ottawa is spending more than $7.2 million for housing construction in Dieppe, N.B.

The federal government and the City of Dieppe, N.B., are working-together to speed up the construction of affordable housing in the city.

Ottawa has committed more than $7.2 million to accelerate the construction of 220 homes over the next three years.

In addition, 3,700 homes are planned for the area in the next decade.

Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe MP Ginette Petitpas Taylor said sometimes Canadians take a home for granted while others strive for it.

“The funding we’re announcing today is built on a very simple idea. Helping municipalities change how homes are permitted in their communities so that in turn we can overcome our housing crisis,” said Petitpas Taylor.

The money is part of the second round of the Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF), which is earmarked to eliminate barriers and speed-up the construction of affordable housing.

“Breaking down barriers that slow down development,” said Petitpas Taylor. “We are very proud to be able to partner with the municipality.”

The HAF is a $4.4 billion initiative from the federal government that began in 2023 and runs until 2027-28.
