A shelter-in-place order has been lifted on Fredericton’s north side after police arrested a man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant.

The Saint John Police Force said last month it was looking for 32-year-old Codi Martin after he failed to return to a correctional centre in Saint John, N.B.

A warrant was issued for Martin’s arrest for allegedly breaching the conditions of his statutory release.

The Fredericton Police Force said Martin was arrested during a police operation Tuesday. He remains in custody.

No other details about his arrest have been released at this time.

The incident prompted police to shut down the areas of Dykeman and Wilcox streets during the ongoing operation Tuesday morning.

Some residents were told to shelter in place while others were evacuated from the area.

Police provided updates on Facebook Tuesday morning but didn’t release any details about the operation while it was ongoing.

The latest update from police around 12:45 p.m. states that the operation has ended and the shelter-in-place order has been lifted.

As for Martin, he had been serving an eight-year sentence for robbery, weapons offences, uttering threats and forcible confinement, among other convictions, before he allegedly walked away from the correctional centre.

Fredericton police say further details will be released when they become available.
