Local New Brunswick governments will receive $138 million next year as part of a new fiscal reform funding model from the provincial government.
The new system will increase funding for local governments next year by $63 million compared to 2025. The governments are expected to receive more than $188 million by 2030.
“Our government understands communities have been facing financial challenges for some time because of unprecedented growth in population, inflation, increases in market values of properties, and aging infrastructure,” said Aaron Kennedy, minister of Local Government, in a news release. “We are all working toward the same goal and want to ensure we are delivering the right solutions and a fair funding model that enables local governments to deliver services to the people of New Brunswick.”
The provincial government says a bill outlining the details of this funding model will be introduced in the legislature this spring.
