Man, 25, charged following assault in Sainte-Anne-de-Madawaska: N.B. RCMP

A man has been charged in connection with an alleged assault in Sainte-Anne-de-Madawaska, N.B., Monday morning.

Police responded to a report of an assault with a weapon at a home on St-Pierre Street around 9:30 a.m.

The suspect was still in the home when officers arrived on scene.

Police say the victim was not injured.

An RCMP crisis negotiator, police dog services and Ambulance New Brunswick also responded to the scene.

Police say they negotiated with the suspect using de-escalation techniques for several hours.

Officers were able to enter the home and arrest the man around 1:20 p.m.

Police say they searched the home and seized the sheath of the knife allegedly used during the assault.

Yannick Berger of Grand-Falls was charged with assault with a weapon and uttering threats in Edmundston provincial court on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old was remanded into custody. He is scheduled to return to court on Thursday.

Police say their investigation is ongoing.
