RCMP says a New Brunswick man charged in connection to a child pornography investigation has been sentenced to four years in prison.
Police executed a search warrant on a home on Worthington Avenue in Moncton as part of the investigation on February 14, 2023, said a previous news release from the RCMP.
During the search, police seized several electronic devices and arrested 49-year-old Michel Joseph Leger. He was released on strict conditions pending his court appearance.
On May 11, 2023, Leger was charged with:
- accessing child pornography
- possession of child pornography
- transmitting child pornography
Leger appeared in provincial court in Moncton on Oct. 7, where he plead guilty to possession of child pornography and making available child pornography.
On Feb. 7, Leger appeared back in provincial court in Moncton, where he was sentenced to four years in prison. He was also ordered to register on the National Sex Offender Registry for 20 years and provide a DNA sample.
Following Leger’s release from prison, he is required to follow conditions set by the court which include no communication with anyone under the age of 16 and a restriction from being present where person under the age of 16 are known to be for a period of 10 years.
