Moncton man charged with first-degree murder in connection with woman’s 2021 death

A man from Moncton, N.B., has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of a woman in 2021.

Alex Beers, 41, was charged with first-degree murder, unlawful confinement and failure to provide the necessaries of life in Moncton provincial court on Wednesday. He was taken into custody and is scheduled to return to court on Feb. 26.

Beers was arrested at a Moncton residence Tuesday in connection with an ongoing homicide investigation, said a news release.

RCMP responded to a sudden death report at a residence in Saint-Paul, N.B., on Oct. 27, 2021. Police found Hyde Jochelman, 33, deceased at the scene.

Police determined Jochelman’s death was suspicious as new evidence arose between 2022 and 2024, said the release. RCMP assigned a senior team of investigators to advance the case.

“Complex investigations like this take time, but our focus has always been on ensuring justice for Hyde and her family,” said Sgt. Dan Sharpe.
