Man facing multiple charges after deadly B.C. crash

A Vancouver Island man is facing several charges, including impaired driving causing death, after a two-vehicle collision last year killed one man and seriously injured another.

The British Columbia Highway Patrol announced the charges Monday against 49-year-old Iain Lemon, of Duncan.

Mounties responded to the crash scene at the intersection of the Trans-Canada Highway and Boys Road, south of Duncan, shortly after 7 p.m. on March 1, 2025.

At the time, the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP said a Dodge Ram 3500 had rolled over onto its roof, trapping two people inside, after colliding with a Dodge Ram 1500.

The driver of the Dodge Ram 1500 was already safely out of the vehicle when officers arrived, police said. However, firefighters and paramedics had to extricate the driver and passenger from the overturned truck.

“Both were taken to hospital,” said the RCMP in a statement following the crash. “Sadly, the passenger of the vehicle, an adult man, was pronounced deceased at the hospital.”

On Monday, more than 14 months after the deadly collision, the B.C. Highway Patrol identified the deceased as a 62-year-old Victoria man who was a passenger in the overturned vehicle. The driver was identified as a 72-year-old Duncan man.

Police said Lemon, the accused, has been charged with one count each of impaired driving causing death, impaired driving causing bodily harm, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm.

His next court appearance is scheduled for May 26 in Duncan provincial court.
