NB Liquor stores still cash only following potential cyber threat

Published:

New Brunswick Liquor is continuing to investigating a possible cyberattack from last week.

NB Liquor (ANBL) and Cannabis NB (CNB) stores remain cash only following a potential cyber attack on the Crown corporation last week.Late on Jan. 7, ANBL discovered a “potential cyber threat” within its system. Shortly after noon the following day, all corporate NB Liquor stores were closed. The stores reopened Thursday afternoon for cash only use. NB Cannabis stores never closed their doors, but have been cash only since Wednesday afternoon.

“We are gradually restoring our systems so that we can resume normal operations as quickly as possible in a secure manner,” ANBL and CNB CEO Lori Stickles told CTV News in an email.

“Our technical team is working around the clock to restore all our processes and daily operations. It is not simply a matter of turning the systems back on but rather restoring the systems in a sequence and order that makes sense to the business and minimizes disruption to our customers and partners.”

Customers can still pick up alcohol from agency and grocery stores using their debit and credit cards as they have not been impacted by the issue.

“We are fully aware of the impact this situation is having on our customers, agency partners, and suppliers and apologize for any inconvenience,” Stickles says. “We expect the full recovery of our systems to take well into this week.”
