A 43-year-old man has been sentenced in connection to a sexual assault and child pornography investigation in Sainte-Rosette, N.B.
Police say members of the Chaleur Region were made aware of a report of a sexual assault in August 2021. At that time, police learned the suspect may possess child pornography.
A search warrant was executed on Chemin Sainte-Louise in August 2022. Police seized a number of digital devices as part of the investigation and arrested 43-year-old Emery Doucet of Sainte-Rosette. Doucet was later released.
Police say a second individual came forward with similar reports involving Doucet on Aug. 24, 2023. Later that day, Doucet was arrested. He appeared in provincial court in Bathurst the following day where he was charged with a number of offences and remanded into custody.
Doucet appeared in provincial court again in Bathurst on May 23, 2024 and plead guilty to:
- four counts of production of child pornography
- two counts of publication of child pornography
- two counts of sexual interference
- invitation to sexual touching
- luring a child
- possession of child pornography
- sexual assault
Doucet was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison on Feb. 26. He was also ordered to register with the National Sex Offender Registry for 20 years, as well as provide a DNA sample.
Upon his release, Doucet will have to abide by conditions set out by the court including not communicating with anyone under the age of 16 or attending any place someone under the age of 16 is known to be. Doucet will also be prohibited from possessing weapons for 10 years.
