New Brunswick spending $18M on bridge replacement in Grand Falls

The New Brunswick government is spending roughly $18 million to replace a nearly 100-year-old bridge in Grand Falls next year.

The government says the replacement of the Little River No. 1 bridge will start next year, but preparation work will begin this fall. The new bridge will offer a three-lane design, according to a news release from the government.

“The Little River No. 1 bridge is a vital link in a key strategic corridor that supports economic activity in the region,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Chuck Chiasson in the release. “This important investment in the community and regional economy will ensure continued connectivity and access for years to come.”

The original single-span bridge was built in 1930 and underwent an evaluation in 2024 that identified significant deterioration in its structural components.

The project also aims to ease the traffic flow at the Route 108 intersections with Burgess Street and Route 130.
